Drolet Residence

Following the discovery of major structural defects, a complete reconstruction of this residence became necessary. Rather than demolishing the house, Cré-Actif developed solutions to retain its front and side facades, thereby preserving the character to which the owners were deeply attached. The project combines structural reconstruction with targeted conservation to provide the residence with a new foundation while maintaining the elements that define its identity.

Project challenges

Preserving a house threatened with demolition

Discoveries made after the purchase revealed major issues that compromised the structure. Demolition became the only option, even though the owners wanted to preserve the house and its character.

Maintaining the original architectural character

The house possesses a charm to which the owners are deeply attached. The challenge was to preserve its facades and architectural qualities despite the scale of the necessary interventions.

Our project approach

Rejecting demolition as the only option

The structural issues discovered after the acquisition were significant enough that the professionals involved considered demolition. However, Cré-Actif chose to explore a different path. Extensive research into structural and construction solutions made it possible to preserve the main facade and the side facades. Reconstruction thus became a way to preserve the character of the house rather than erase it.

Turning constraints into possibilities

The owners' desire to keep their home guided the project's vision. Rather than giving up in the face of the scale of the work, Cré-Actif sought, whenever conditions allowed, solutions capable of reconciling technical requirements with the project's goals. This approach, rooted in creativity and commitment, made it possible to save the architectural elements the owners were deeply attached to, while rebuilding the residence on an entirely renewed foundation.
