Grand Boulevard Residence

This semi-detached cottage shows significant structural issues related to its terracotta construction, a building system that is exceptionally rare today. The renovation requires a major structural intervention, carried out in collaboration with the engineer, while allowing for a complete reconfiguration of the spaces. The main porch, whose structure had detached, is also being rebuilt to restore its heritage qualities and return the residence to its original character.

Project challenges

Stabilizing a terracotta structure

The cottage's structure is significantly misaligned and rests on terracotta elements. The intervention requires major structural underpinning while maintaining the conditions necessary for the building's preservation.

Preserving the house during construction

The party wall shared with the neighbor must remain in place during the work. The renovation must also correct soundproofing weaknesses and ensure a safe intervention on this shared structure.

Our project approach

Rethinking the structure to transform the spaces

The structural underpinning was developed in close collaboration with the engineer to stabilize a building with unique conditions, while paving the way for a complete interior reconfiguration. The structure thus becomes the starting point for a new spatial organization rather than an isolated constraint to be fixed. This approach makes it possible to address the building's realities while giving the project coherence between the structural interventions and the new uses.

Restoring the veranda to match the home's character

The main veranda, a striking architectural feature of the residence, requires a complete overhaul following structural detachment. Its reconstruction will restore the qualities of the original veranda, particularly the fine woodwork and wood detailing that define its character. This intervention aims to reclaim the architectural value of this heritage element and restore a presence worthy of the home, while ensuring its structural integrity and longevity.
